This year – for the first time – the Rotary Club of Bangor participated in the Bangor Business Awards by sponsoring an award to recognise ‘unsung heroes’ in our community. The award was presented to a person who, in the opinion of any voluntary organisation, had ‘gone that extra mile’ or who had overcome personal difficulties while still managing to give assistance to others.
At a ceremony, held on 20th September 2012, the Rotary Club of Bangor Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Charlie Taylor, of Saint Vincent de Paul. Mr Taylor is a member of the Saint Comgall’s Conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, based at Saint Comgall’s church, Brunswick Road, Bangor. President Bill Aiken expressed his great pleasure that the award had gone to a very impressive individual who made a real difference to his local community, through his work with Saint Vincent de Paul.
