To mark the 90th Anniversary of Bangor Rotary Club the Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Alistair Cathcart, held a reception in the City Hall for members and their partners.
Congratulating the Club on the work it does in the community the Mayor said the Borough was blessed to have so many volunteer groups carrying out sterling work for those in need.
He encouraged the Rotarians to continue the service they provide and he looked forward to celebrating the Club’s Centenary.
In recognition of its achievement over the years the Mayor presented the Club President Bill Aiken with an inscribed Borough Plaque.
Thanking the Mayor for his hospitality, President Bill said his kind words would help to inspire the Rotarians and reaffirm the importance of what they try to achieve.
Such evenings, he said, reminded everyone of the bonds they share, the friendships they enjoy as a service organisation, and the difference they make, all underpinned by the guiding principle that motivates all Rotarians ‘Service Above Self’.
He highlighted the collaboration the Club has had with the local Council over the years and the fact that many members of the Club or their partners had served as Mayors.
He told Councillor Cathcart that the Club deeply appreciated his leadership and dedication to the Borough
“Your vision and commitment to working with organisations like ours creates a lasting impact and your belief in the power of partnership motivates us to aim even higher”, he added.
And he said it had been a privilege to be granted permission to plant a tree in the grounds of the Castle to mark the Club’s 90th Anniversary.
