During a visit to the Rotary Club of Bangor the District Governor of Rotary in Ireland told members it was amazing what can be achieved by Clubs throughout the world working together.
Referring to the International Rotary motto for this year. ‘The Magic of Rotary’ Seamus Parle from Wicklow said when Clubs come together they create tremendous power and make a significant difference to the lives of those in need both at home and abroad.
But his main message was that if Rotary is to continue to flourish clubs must make it a priority to encourage new members to join.
Clubs should constantly refresh their membership he said, and he called on all clubs to adopt a membership plan and set targets for the years ahead.
Rotarians should make people aware of the benefits of joining a club by pointing out the opportunities for business networking, social networking and self-development.
And he added, what better way to improve self-development than to get involved in community service and take part in Rotary projects.
Before departing the District Governor presented the Bangor President Bill Aiken with a copy of a book written by the District Chairman of Rotary Foundation Howard Caskie on the origins of Rotary
In return the President presented him with a replica of the Bangor Bell.
