On 25 June, members of Bangor Rotary travelled together by coach to the majestic Killymoon Castle near Cookstown for a memorable changeover day, marking the beginning of Ian Wilson’s presidency.
The outgoing president, Bill Aiken, led the club on this special occasion, which began with a captivating guided tour of the historic castle. Members were treated to the rich stories and heritage of this enchanting venue before being ushered into its magnificent dining room — a space as grand as its views over the sculpted grounds.
There, the lady of the castle, Dorothy Coulter, hosted what many agreed was one of the finest afternoon teas ever enjoyed by the club — a truly gracious and delicious experience that added a touch of elegance to the day.
The handover ceremony followed, where Bill welcomed Ian and presented him with the historic chain of office, a symbol of leadership in our 90-year-old club. Ian responded with his trademark good humour, setting a tone of optimism and camaraderie for the year ahead.
A further highlight of the day was the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow award to Past President James O’Fee — a fitting recognition of his enduring service and commitment to Rotary values.
It was a day of reflection, celebration, and renewal — the perfect start to a new chapter for Bangor Rotary.
