A Beach Clean was organised by Rtn Karen Dougles on behalf of Bangor Rotary. The Clean was scheduled to take place as part of Live Here Love Here’s #BigSpringClean initiative to encourage local communities to get involved and show their local spaces some love.
In total 12 Rotarians and friends worked to collect 19 bags of litter. All items where separated out to promote recycling opportunity to reduce the amount going to landfill. 10 bags of litter where recycled i.e. glass bottles, plastic bottles & other plastic items, and cans with 45kgs of litter removed from the beach
Thanks especially to James, Howard & Denis #TheThreeMusketeers who jumped the seawall and gathered 12 bags and a large gas canister from the adjacent parkland, no mean feat!
Our finds included scores of glass bottles; plastic bottles; cans, a number of single-use BBQ’s which are particularly problematic from a health and safety perspective for humans and animals alike given the sharp metal mesh upon which the food items rests; plastic wrapping; crisp packets; etc.
Thanks to Ards and North Down Borough Council Cleansing Team who attended to lift the separated waste we collected.
