Strabane-born Peter Boyle, founder and chief executive of Argento, spoke to a packed room as our concluding Business Speaker for this season.
While studying business at the University of Ulster, Peter fell in to selling posters in a market stall. He had a good eye for choosing merchandise and his entire stock sold out in his first week of trading. Which is when he discovered jewellery and hasn’t looked back since with a chain of 56 shops in the UK and Ireland which employ more than 500 people.
According to Peter there is one accessory that anyone who wants to make it in business needs above any other: a love of hard work.
“Hard work pays off: if you want to be successful, then you need to be prepared to make sacrifices, be ready to do whatever it takes and work hard. Never say it can’t be done.”
Concluding the meeting, President Gavin thanked PP Brian Balmer for organising an outstanding series of Business Speakers from September 2016 to March 2017. Gavin said, “One of our priorities this year has been to raise the profile of our Club.
“I had identified the Business Series as the perfect reason to contact the business community on a regular basis and Brian has delivered an amazing set of inspirational speakers over the past seven months.”
