An annual Charity Breakfast organised by Bangor Rotary Club has raised more than £2,800 this year.
The money is to be divided between Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI and Rotary Foundation, the body that funds Rotary projects throughout the world.
Welcoming over a hundred Rotarians and guests to the breakfast in Bangor Golf Club, the Rotary Club President, Ian Wilson, praised the work of Leukaemia &Lymphoma NI and said it was the only local charity dedicated to blood cancer research.
All the funds raised, he said, remain in Northern Ireland to support projects that benefit local patients.
The research has helped the survival rates of some blood cancers improve dramatically and has found cures for certain types of Leukaemia and Lymphoma.
Blood cancer is the 5th most common cancer and the third most fatal. Three people every day are diagnosed and one in four do not survive.
President Ian also referred to Rotary Foundation and said it was one of the biggest charities in the world.
It supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programmes.
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum, congratulated the Rotary Club on the work it does and its achievements.
She said it was amazing what could be achieved when a group of like-minded people get together.
The guest speaker, BBC Sports Commentator, Jim Neilly, who is a supporter of the Leukaemia Charity, regaled the guests with amusing stories and anecdotes from the world of rugby, boxing and other sports.
Thanking Jim for his entertaining speech, Past President Denis Neill, congratulated him on his commentaries over many years and said he had the ability to paint pictures leaving listeners with the impression that they were actual at the event.
